Nearly 300 middle- and high school boys learned about singing as a male chorus at a special workshop sponsored by the Men of Note Chorus. The event, held Nov. 21 at Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano, marked the second Spectrum of Harmony event held with the Plano Independent School District.

Each of the 12 middle school campuses was represented, while seven of the eight high schools participated.

The boys were able to practice the intricacies of harmony by working on music with two guest clinicians.  The culmination of the event was a concert that included the middle school boys chorus, the high school boys chorus, and the Men of Note Chorus.

In addition to the chorus instruction, four small groups of young men sang it out in a contest that was judged by Men of Note director Mark Holdeman and singing instructor Brian Beck. The winning quartet, Brace Yourself, was invited to perform at the Men of Note’s Christmas show in December.

“The day was truly remarkable, in part because of the willing support from our chorus members who were involved in the activity all day long,” said Greg Elam, coordinator of the Spectrum of Harmony. “It was a great event.”
