Terry Chapman is the current Interim Director while the Men of Note chorus is considering candidates to become the new permanent Musical/Creative Director.
Terry has been a barbershopper since 2009; it is his passion. Growing up, he was in prestigious show choirs in both high school and college. Terry has attended multiple colleges, including the University of North Texas, to further his goal of getting his Bachelor’s in Music Education. In 2014, Terry achieved the first step in that goal, by graduating with an Associate’s of Arts degree in Music from Collin College. He was awarded “Most Promising New Conducting Student” by the Collin College Music Department faculty.
The Men of Note chorus has awarded Terry several times in the past, including: Rookie of the Year (2009) and Barbershopper of the Month (July '09, March '12, April '13). He was hired as the Assistant director of the Men of Note in 2014, and was awarded both the "Verdell Anderson Spirit Award - 2014" and "Barbershopper of the Year - 2014".
From August 2014 to May of 2017, Terry was the Creative/Musical Director and VP of Music at the Big-D Chorus in Dallas, TX. Big-D is the oldest barbershop chorus in Dallas, having been founded in 1946. Throughout his years at Big-D, Terry helped the chorus in its successful attempts to: increase its membership with both younger and older members, innovate its marketing by joining the world of social media, promote and showcase local barbershop quartets, broaden its community outreach, and increase its revenue stream by 240% over previous years.
Terry’s prolific barbershop tag compositions have earned him the nickname “TerryTags” among the barbershoppers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. His TerryTags have been sung all over the world by choruses and quartets, large and small. He subscribes to the theory that all barbershop tags should be: “short and easy-to-teach, with juicy chords, and have meaningful lyrics.” His tags can be found at www.TerryTags.com
